Edge computing, AI and 5G campus networks in nomadic application for construction site management
ECOnoM
To secure the German and European construction industry and advance Germany as a hub of technology and innovation, the research and development of construction site automation is essential.
Within the framework of EConoM, innovations in the areas of 5G campus networks and artificial intelligence aim to improve construction quality, increase workplace safety on-site, reduce overall costs, and shorten construction times. For this to happen, edge computing, AI, and a communication infrastructure must be made widely available on construction sites in a robust, user-friendly, and reliable manner.

Automation and digitalization of regulatory interactions for the provision and operation of private 5G networks
5G-ADIRI
5G-ADirI plays a central role in promoting flexibility and efficiency in the use of 5G technologies for temporary and permanent private campus networks. The ability to set up private 5G networks for limited periods significantly expands the application fields of the technology, particularly in dynamic areas such as agriculture, emergency services, and construction sites.
The main goal of the project is to simplify regulatory processes through automated licensing, enabling the use of 5G through flexible licensing models such as daily, shared, or hourly licenses. A Digital Twin is intended to geographically map all private 5G networks along with their coverage areas and will be implemented as an example in the project.
Cyber Security for Flexible and Interconnected Industry
CSII
Cybersecurity is becoming increasingly vital, especially for manufacturing companies integrating digital technologies into their operations. That’s where the CSII research project comes in. Alongside leading partners, we are developing an audit process to help businesses—particularly SMEs—effectively review and implement IT security concepts in line with national and international standards.
This also includes the creation of an IT/OT test lab, where companies can safely test various cybersecurity scenarios without risk.
With regulations like NIS2 on the horizon, this initiative equips organizations with the tools and expertise needed to secure their digital infrastructure, combat cyber threats, and drive innovation.
